About us
Bestek gained our knowledge of ignition systems while working for Micro Dynamics back in the mid-80s.
After Microdynamics shut down Bestek was born as a small business, acquiring about 20,000 new ‘old stock’ distributors. For years we supplied the trade and public with some great products. In 2007 Bestek(uk) Ltd was set up with my dad as a director and offering me a huge amount of support until in 2015 when we finally ran out of stock. At this point Bestek(uk) Ltd was made dormant as we were not willing to supply the now notorious Chinese products that have proved so unreliable.
We thought it was all over until Covid came along, at this point the drawing board came out, the brain was put into top gear and the designs of our own ‘billet’ distributor was completed.
The drawings were sent to a couple of CNC machining companies and products like caps, rotors and pick-ups were sourced. Immediately there was a huge demand for our Pinto units, short enough to fit under the straight manifold and powerful enough to supply a good spark even at 12,000 rpm, long after the competition’s products have faded out.
We have recently been introduced to an electronics genius who is now working for Bestek; the first creation was the new ignition amplifier, triggered by points, magnetic, hall or optical. It also has a built in 3 stage rev limiter and 2 stage shift light. After a little more programming and some physical alterations, it will also have boost retard and vacuum advance capabilities.
All of the investment into the new products has come from my own pocket, this is why the release of new products has been delayed. However with sales increasing at a great speed we will be developing new products much more frequently.
Our Distributor Testing
Our distributor tester is designed to conduct tests on complete distributor ignition systems.
The tester has a heavy duty one horsepower D.C. motor with electronic speed control clockwise and counter clockwise rotation to drive the distributor up to 7,500 rpm – which equals 15,000 rpm engine speed.
Through this it allows us to use multiple power supplies to activate the various components under test with a brilliant strobe xenon flash lighting that has protractor for spotting worn cams, bent rotors or intermittent electronic modules and accurately display the speed of the driven distributor .
We can display the cam angle, points resistance, and condenser capacitance and condition with our analogue cam angle meter.
We have selector switching for testing electronic ignitions with and without coils as well as standard systems with and without coils. Selector positions are also used for testing modules, coils, and pick-up coils.
Also many more tests can be conducted with our testing machine.

We had an Oval car in running a pinto that kept having issues with loosing the spark. The wiring, module and dizzy was getting old and as the formula permits it we was able to supply and fit a Bestek pinto distributor kit the quality of the kit is excellent and more modern with a controlled ignition ramp on the timing.
The kit is also available for road vehicles and not just pinto engines many other distributor vehicles covered
